This morning I needed to clamp and center about three dozen parts to make 45-degree bevels on the tops.  These things already had some bottom pieces screwed on with red Loctite, so I dedided to work around the problem that the bottom pieces were variable in width, and wider than the vertical part I'd be milling.  I stuck a pair of parallels to my vise by using small magnets on the top edges to keep them aligned with the top of the vise rather than the bottom.  That way I could accommodate the uneven parts easily:
