If you need to wipe up some glue, oil or other material, and you really don't want to increase the puddle or smear any on the surrounding surface, try this little trick.  Take a long strip of paper towel, hold  your left index finger down against the surface to the left and a little ways away from the spill.  Then, pull the paper towel up and to the right as  you move your finger over the puddle.  If you pull the paper two or three times faster than  you move your finger, you'll draw an amazing amout of liquid up and away fro the spill without smearing any at all.
