c. 1900 S.S.Stewart Special Thoroughbred
Here are some photos of a fine S.S.Stewart 5-string banjo. The Special Thoroughbred was a popular model at the time, and this was the fanciest catalog version.

No shortage of inlay, carving or laminations on this banjo! As with most Stewarts, the neck is cherry, with ebony peghead veneer and fingerboard.

The shell is solid nickel spun over a wooden core, with lots of marquetry inside. The other metal parts are silver plated.
